List Of 20+ Who Sings The Song Take The Long Way Home

General CommentI'm reminded of a story I read about, where a guy out west, not a celebrity, just an ordinary guy, had just left a bar to go home, right before a landslide hit it. He was the only survivor, and here's what he did. He got in his car, and headed east. He said he felt like somebody'd said, here's your life again, see if you can't do better this time. Genius is the ultimate source of music knowledge, created by scholars like you who share facts and insight about the songs and artists they love. On a personal note...this song is about every commute you have ever taken.

Has anybody ever considered the possibilty that the song is about the effects of living life on a stage? The pressures to constantly be "ON", and very rarely having the chance to be something else? So many artists find themselves stuck in the rut of constantly cranking out the same thing time after time, never allowed to be something else. This song reminds of me of grown-up people I know who have been mild drug users all their lives, you know, true rock 'n' rollers, and well, by staying youthful, never really became anything more than mediocre. Yet there is something to be said for taking the long way home, you get to see a lot more along the road, and it's always interesting.

What year did supertramp release their song take the long way home?

Very few who I have interpreted this song to, can here what I do in the lyrics. Having loved this song since it was released, what it speaks to me personally is a sense of needing to 'reset' one's outlook on the often out of control madness in our lives. I've always assumed that this song was about him and his failed or about to fail marriage. Whatever the case, i'm sure he has drawn a lot of this from personal experiences. I always thought the meaning of, "take the long way home" was another way of saying, "take time to smell the roses". I have never been able to figure out what "part of the furniture" means; it is clearly a metaphor for something.

Nowadays, we have the Supertramp camp saying Roger is stealing Supertramp songs for his use on tour. Roger wrote his songs and Rick Davies wrote his songs - it would be nice if the side could come to a reconciliation but it doesn't look promising. Anyway, enjoy the songs, they are amazing works of art.

Take The Long Way Home (ROGER HODGSON) – LyricsBlast

I interpret it as the personal struggle Roger was feeling with the pressure of being an elite rock musician versus the responsibility of being a husband and father. The vocals, and emotion of Roger's vocals combined with the clarinet, and keyboards really strike a chord-a great song! In an interview with a Danish tv network, Roger cited the need to be a regular father as the reason he decided to leave the band in 1983.

You drive home to your house in the suburbs thinking about all the dreams and aspirations you had before marriage and children. This is one of my favorite all time songs. In my opinion it’s about a guy who is probably in his mid thirties.

Who wrote the Supertramp song Take The Long Way Home?

I'm so very glad that the band didn't sell out and let Greyhound use this song for their commercials. This album is one of my all-time favorites. It's about someone who has success, but hasn't really acheived anything. As he's driving home from work, he literally takes the long way home and sees some of the things that he could have been if he hadn't sold out for money or power or whatever. Really don't like this song or the entire album. They did much better in previous albums.

That line which reads "...who´s to blame when you´re not around? You TOOK THE LONG WAY HOME ". As they say, we gotta read between the lines. A lot of us, including me most of the time, are a bit lost.

However he realizes his prime is gone he's old news. Alx, I always took the "part of the furniture," line as a reference to the decline of the relationship. My guess is that she's tired of him and is sleeping around with someone else hence why she just ignores him.

Makes me think of something that is so sad that you can't put it into words. This song takes me back to when I was young and free and had none of the responsibilities or regrets of what is now my middle age. As a single person, I can relate to the lyrics, "When the time comes to settle down, who's to blame if you're not around." 'Take The Long Way Home' has a quality about it that just makes me feel warm inside. I don't know if it's the harmonies or the melodies, or whatever, but I never get sick of it.

Sings Arlen & Berlin

Mainly she just doesn't love him anymore; she's there to either to leech off of him or for the kids sake. Hence why he feels he's part of the scenery he's just there pretending. I picture a guy not wanting to go home to his suburban life and wife and taking the long way home so he doesn't have to be there. When he got married everything changed. Now he's part of the scenery - he's the joke of the neighborhood .

But many people, including me in many ways, don’t realize that yet. It takes until we are about 70 years old to realize that most of our struggles were pointless. We, this time in past tense, took the long way home.
